Pink and Jim From July 25-30th Ron and I went to a blue grass festival at Salt River Acres, which is between Midland
and Mt. Pleasant off of M20. There was a pot luck dinner Wednesday night at 6:00pm. Thursday the stage music didn't start
until 6:00 but you can hear music being played if you walk around the different campsites where people gather to play, sing
or listen. This is my favorite kind of music, the acoustical, without ampliphers. My favorites were a woman that I would
say was in her mid 70's that played the bass volin and had a good singing voice. Another woman in her 20's that played the
mandolin, bass volin and sang. Another was a man that played the volin. They would take turns deciding the next song to be
played and/or sang. Many of the people play more than one instrument. These people would play until 3:00am. Friday the stage
music started at 11:00pm until 1:00am with the bands changing every 45 minutes. Friday after the band members played on stage
they would go to the campsites and join the people that were playing there. The same schedule for Saturday but we were joined
by my next door neighbor, Pink, her boy friend, and another couple. We met many people walking around and talking to the people
at the camp sites. We met the campers on both sides of us. On the one side of us was a couple in there 40's that had been
married for just a year. He played several instruments including the bagpipes and she had a beautiful singing voice and was
learning to play. Another interesting person was Rose, a woman that was 78, a widow, that drove her motor home to the different
festivals. They weather had been great but on Sunday morning when we woke up it was sprinkling so we hurried and packed up.
On the way home we stopped at Bay City, MI to go to the Tall Ships festival. There were about 10 ships, one from Russia,
the Ukran, Nova Scotia, Ontario plus the ones from the USA. The one from Ontario, The Bluenose, is on the back of the Canadian
dime.
