April 1, 2001: We left Chapala in the morning. We made good time so we spent the night in Saltillo. Although we didn't
have any trouble we were stopped three times by the police for inpection.
April 2, 2001: We drive on to Nuevo Larado though customs (we have to turn our truck sticker in) and then on across the border
to customs in Texas without incindent. We got stopped again in Texas by the Border Patrol for a few questions. We had decided
that we would go along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico as far as we could before turning north. That night we spent the night
in Freer, Texas
April 3, 2001: We arrived in Galveston in the afternoon and then found a motel. Then we walked along the ocean and found
a place to eat supper.
April 4, 2001: Then on to Padre Island where we found a campground at a National Park. Since I have a Golden Age Card the
camping for the night only cost $4.00 for a tent.
April 5, 2001: Now we stop for the night near Lake Charles, LA. and tent camp for the night at a county park. Put up our tent,
go find a resturant and then return to the campground. Since we have electric hookup here at this campground we want to sit
and watch TV for a while. But....the mosquitoes are so thick we have to take our portable TV and watch it in the tent. They
have a bathhouse with hot showers but when I get there they are locked. At the office I am told that we have to have a key
and put up a $25.00 deposit. We get the key, go to the showers and there as many mosquitoes there as there are at the campsite.
